Paige Barricklow’s new car was just one milestone she hit that week earlier this month.
Paige had also completed the esthetician program at Lorain County Joint Vocational School. JVS is also how she heard about the By Car program – a partnership of LCCAA and OhioMeansJobs Lorain County.
Now, she’s the proud owner of a 2017 Ford Escape and no longer using the family car to get around.
“Having my own car has been such a blessing,” she said. “It has helped me and my family out tremendously and I am so incredibly thankful this program is around.”
By Car matches earned income at a rate of $3 for every $1 saved. Participants must be active in OhioMeansJobs programs and also take a financial class through LCCAA. Paige said the class taught her the importance of spending her money wisely.
At the end of October, Paige will sit for her board exam and obtain her official esthetician license. After that, she will be working at Bethesda Spa in Avon.
