Options Available for Energy Assistance

posted 4/11/24 -- Even though Winter Crisis is over, there are still options available if you need help with your energy bills.

No appointment at LCCAA is needed to apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) or the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP). For both programs, visit energyhelp.ohio.gov.

The HEAP provides a once-per-season benefit and you can apply as late as May 31. Even if you have received this benefit before, you must still apply every year. HEAP benefits are paid directly to your utility company.

PIPP adjusts your energy bills to a percentage of your income, totaling no more than 10 percent of your income. PIPP customers who pay their adjusted amounts on time and in full every month are able to erase old balances. PIPP customers must reverify their income annually, also via energyhelp.ohio.gov.

The energy help website is easy to use with a valid email address. You can also use your account to track your application’s status. Allow up to eight weeks for processing. Applications can also be mailed, but those can take up to 12 weeks and cannot be tracked.
